The Nigerian government has stepped up efforts to expand access to inclusive, quality basic education through the 2026 Basic Education in Nigeria Bootcamp (BEN-B)/Summit in Jos, Plateau State. The event is being organised in collaboration with development partners and the Plateau State Government.
Scheduled for April 28–30, 2026, at Crispan Hotel, Jos, the bootcamp will bring together policymakers, education administrators, and key stakeholders to develop practical strategies for reducing the number of out-of-school children and strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy.
The initiative is led by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad, as part of ongoing national efforts to improve access to quality learning. Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, is expected to deliver the keynote address.
With a focus on inclusive education, the bootcamp builds on outcomes from previous editions, aiming to drive evidence-based implementation across states. Progress reports indicate notable gains in community learning centres, open schooling initiatives, and education data tracking systems.
The programme also aligns with broader education reforms, including the National Education Data Initiative (NEDI), the Literacy and Numeracy Initiative (LIN), and the expansion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), while reinforcing collaboration to ensure every Nigerian child has access to education.
