Nigeria, Angola to Sign 15 MOUs as 5th Joint Commission Begins in Luanda

Luanda (Core Reporters) The 5th session of the Nigeria-Angola Bilateral Economic Joint Commission (BEJC) has commenced in Luanda, Angola, with expectations of significant economic collaborations between the two nations. Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, highlighted that the meeting aims to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance mutual interests through various Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs).

This was contained in a press statement signed by Dr. Magnus Eze, the Special Assistant on Communication and New Media to the minister of state for foreign affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
According to the statement, the MOUs to be signed cover a range of areas, including: Establishing the Nigeria-Angola Business Council, Economic and Technical Cooperation, Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking, Migration Partnership, Visa Waiver for Diplomatic Passport Holders, Cooperation in Correctional Administration and Reforms.
Others are; Technical Manpower Assistance, Tertiary Education Cooperation, Anti-Corruption Efforts, Youth Development, Policing and Security, Cultural Exchanges, Mutual Legal Assistance, Defence and Intelligence Cooperation, Public Communication and Media Exchanges, Mining and Mineral Processing, Land Transportation and Health and Medical Sciences.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, expressed optimism that the MOUs will propel bilateral relations to a higher level, enhancing economic and social growth, and building capacity for both countries. The Nigerian delegation looks forward to presenting several vital issues for consideration, including: Cooperation in Human and Natural Resources Development, Technical Manpower Assistance, Commencement of Nigerian Airline Carriers’ Flights to Angola, Exploration of Opportunities in Oil and Gas Sectors, Elimination of Double Taxation and Progress on the Memorandum of Understanding between the Central Bank of Nigeria and the National Bank of Angola.
However, the Angolan Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Domingos Vieira Lopes, welcomed the Nigerian delegation, expressing hope for fruitful outcomes that will strengthen ties and diplomatic relationships between the two African nations.
