The Chairperson of the Governing Council of the National Human Right Commission, Dr. Salamatu Husseini Suleiman has lauded the management and staff of the commission over the organization of a four-day retreat for the newly inaugurated members of the commission’s governing council.
She said that the retreat will offer them the opportunity to get use to the activities of the commission so that both of them can work on the same pace for the development of the commission and to deliver good services for Nigerians and foreigners as well.
Recall that the Federal Government on August 5, 2021 inaugurated members of the governing council of the National Human Rights Commission, scoring itself high on the protection of the rights of Nigerian citizens.
Dr. Salamatu Husseini Suleiman, however, stated that the retreat has given the members of the governing council a direction of what is expected of them at the commission and has clearly shown the acceptability of his members by the management and staff of the commission.
“One of the critical aspects this retreat has done is that it has made us to understand the workings of the commission. If you do not understand how the commission works; the processes, the position of the law, rules of the procedure, steps to submitting complaint and how to treat them you won’t know how to start. It is when you understand all these that you can hit the ground running,
“So with what the management and staff of the commission have done to us, you can see that we are set to hit the ground running because we’ve been impacted with the right knowledge of the working of the commission through this retreat,” She said.
However, the Executive Secretary of the commission, Tony Ojukwu said the members of the governing council have received the necessary knowledge of the working of the commission and he was sure that judging from their dispositions, they are good to go.
Ojukwu noted that the retreat was organized to actually prepare members of the governing council ahead of the task before them because the rights of Nigerians must be protected.
He said the retreat also was to assure members of the governing council of the management readiness to work with them in order to prove to President Muhammadu Buhari that he has not made any mistake by appointing the new members of the council.
