Newly elected president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau is set to meet members of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) in Abuja today.
The meeting is not but connected to the face off between the PFAN and the NFF under the immediate past president, Amaju Pinnick.
It would be recalled that ahead of the NFF election, the PFAN had dragged the federation to court seeking to stop the election that ushered in the current leadership, but all of a sudden, the PFAN withdrew their case in court to pave wave for the election which Gusau eventually emerged as the president.
However, the president of PFAN Tijani Babaginda has commended the president of NFF for initiating to meet them, though insisting that he was going to meet with their task force.Babaginda noted that the move was a welcome development capable of bringing a lasting solution to the lingering crisis between the two bodies.
“We are very happy with this new development by the NFF president. This is what has been lacking with the former presidents who decided to stay away from meeting with us. This is the reason the problems have lingered. I am very happy, and we are graciously looking forward to the NFF president meeting with our task force,”
The Nigeria players unions have been at loggerhead with the Nigeria football authorities, a situation that has led to lots of litigations.
Currently, the players Union task force is still contesting the legality of the last NFF election which produced the current board. And there are fears that the board may be sent packing if the ruling goes against them. But, with the new move by the President of the Football Federation, a lasting peace may be finally reached by all parties.
