The former Super Eagles striker, Daniel Amokachi has revealed that his appointment as the Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on sports will help strengthen the sector.
President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday appointed, Daniel Amokachi, as his Special Assistant on Sports.
His letter of appointment was issued on August 17, 2020, and signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.
Amokachi in a telephone conversation with Corereporters said he was happy that President Buhari has recognized him twice recently which shows that his (President Buhari)’s administration has the Nigerian youths at heart, coupled with the quality appointment of Mr. Sunday Dare as the minister of youth and sports development and now him.
The former Everton of England and Ranchers Bees of Kaduna player who was earlier in the year named Nigeria’s Football Ambassador, said that he will work with everybody in order to compliment the effort of Mr. Dare in returning the nation’s sports to its former glories.
“My appointment is a direct interpretation of the mind of President Muhammadu Buhari for the Nigerian youths. I will work with the ‘talk and do’ minister of youth and sports development, Mr. Sunday Dare so that we will together and every other well meaning Nigerian take the nation’s sports sector back to its past glories which off-course Mr. Dare is already working towards.
“As an Olympian, a player who had plight his trade beyond the shore of the country and as a coach who has also managed youths in the past, I will bring my experience to bear in this my new position,” Amokachi said.
Meanwhile, ‘Da Bull’ as Amokachi is fondly called by his admirers was part of the victorious Under-23 team that won the Olympics gold medal in Atlanta 96.
