Federal Ministry of Transport, Marine and Blue Economy has honoured Dr Sampson Ojon and 19 other staff who have distinguished themselves in service for 2023 Civil Service Award.

Representing the minister, the Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani pointed out that the event was to mark the Civil Service Week which was globally celebrated.

According to her, one of the pillars of civil service strategic implementation was to reward and recognize excellence in service.

She advised those who were not recognized to keep working hard pointing to the due diligence, investigation and thorough work that was carried out by the Civil service committee assigned to screen the award nominees.

She posited, “Everybody should keep working hard. Those who got the award this year were not the ones that got it last year. As long as you keep working hard, you will one day be recognized”.

Amongst the staff who were recognized was Engr Dr Sampson Nwovu Ojon of the Rail Transport Services Department who received Civil Service Excellent Performance Award.

His achievements included but not limited to his leadership capacity in various areas he served, building of ultra modern Gym center, and ensuring every staff had sportswear in the Ministry of Transport.

Reacting to the award, Engr Dr Sampson Nwovu Ojon appreciated God for giving him the strength to dedicate himself to duty saying, ” Whenever I was given a target with a deadline. I made sure I delivered the target before the deadline. Whenever I was given an assignment to do, I always did it to the best of my ability.”

He said that the award would propel him to do more work noting that there was no cause to lower the standard he had set.

Ojon, however, acknowledged that his achievements would not have been possible but for the type of leaders he had worked under. He dedicated the award to God first, and to his parents who deemed it fit to give him adequate education.

Meanwhile, the awardees were well applauded by their colleagues showing that the awards were well deserved.
