As the unwarranted attacks on Igbos traders in Lagos continues unabated in Lagos, the leadership of the Indigenous Ethnic Youth Leaders of Nigeria (IEYLN) has warned the Yoruba nation in Lagos to stop the unwarranted attack on Igbos in Lagos forthwith or be ready to contain other ethnic youths across their respective states.
The National Chairman of the IEYLN, Comr. Gonet Nensok made this known in a press statement on Thursday in Abuja. He said, the act Yoruba All Progressive Congress (APC) thugs in Lagos are perpetuating against the Igbos whom they suspected voted for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi is capable of causing civil unrest and setting the country ablaze.
He noted that, Yoruba political thugs should know that fighting Igbos for voting Peter Obi is like fighting the entire nation, and they should be ready to have other ethnic groups to contain with in their various localities, adding that it’s not only Igbos that voted for Peter Obi of Labour Party, or only Yorubas that voted Tinubu in APC.
The statement reads in parts, “The coloration this burning down of shops in Lagos state is portraying that Yoruba political thugs for Tinubu of APC are fighting the igbos for voting Peter Obi of LP.
“This is capable of causing a serious civil unrest and setting the country ablaze. As other Ethnic youths leaders of Nigeria, we won’t allow any tribe to keep threatening the existence of the other tribes residing within their domain as stipulated in the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria 1999 amended, especially when they are law abiding citizens going about with their legitimate businesses.
“Yoruba political thugs should know that fighting Igbos for voting Peter Obi is like fighting the entire nation Nigeria, and would have other ethnic groups to contain with in our various localities, because not only Igbos voted Peter Obi of Labour Party, and also not only Yorubas voted Tinubu in APC, some Igbos voted for APC and vice versa.
“We call on the Yoruba Youth leader (s) here to call your Youths to order and stop further provocation of shop owners and Igbos residing in Lagos because we won’t take it. This is a total breakdown of law and order and won’t be tolerated by other tribes of Nigeria. We can’t be a lawless nation in this modern time,” he warned. It will be recalled that the aftermath of Presidential election held on February 25, where the candidate of LP, Peter Obi won Lagos State, traders of Igbos extraction have witnessed some unwarranted attacks which included burning down of their shops across some markets in the state.
In the same vein, the National President, Southern Nigerian Ethnic Youth Assembly (SNEYA), Hon. Come. Felix Worlu has also warned that any further provocation on the Igbos in Lagos, the association will have no option than to order it members to retaliate in their various states.
