June 12 Heroes Recognition: Rep Whingan Thumps Tinubu
As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu broke the jinx of June 12, 1993 by recognising the heroes and heroines who risked their lives for democracy in Nigeria, Hon. Sessi Oluwaseun Whingan, representing Badagry Federal Constituency of Lagos State in the 10th Assembly has president Bola Tinubu for recognizing the sacrifices of Nigeria’s democratic heroes while rallying the youth behind the administration’s long-term vision for national growth.
The lawmaker who spoke with newsmen shortly after the joint session of the National assembly with President Tinubu on Thursday, June 12, described the President’s Democracy Day tribute as a significant gesture, acknowledging those “who fought the struggle,” and emphasizing that honoring such heroes goes beyond party lines. “When you do the right thing, even your enemies will agree with you,” he said, highlighting the rare unity of voices supporting the President’s message, including from the opposition.
He likened Nigeria’s current state to a patient undergoing treatment: “When you are sick, you take medication, but healing takes time. That is where we are as a nation. The President is laying a concrete foundation for a greater economy and a greater Nigeria.”
Addressing the role of youth in nation-building, Hon. Sessi affirmed full support from the younger generation. “The future belongs to us. We see that the government’s policies today align with the vision of the youth,” he stated, calling for continuous policy evaluation to ensure they reflect the aspirations of Nigeria’s vibrant and dynamic young population.
