As the country’s battling with insecurity ravaging its citizenry, traditional rulers have canvassed for constitutional inclusion in maintaining peace and order in their various communities.
The Chairman, Governing Coucil of National Development Summit of Traditional Rulers, HRH, Dr Emmanuel Sideso (Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom) pointed out the need for the government to use the traditional rulers to ensure peace in the country.
Sideso while deliverying his speech during the 12th edition of the mega summit with theme: Towards Sustainable Peace, Unity and Prosperity in Nigeria, held Thursday in Abuja, noted that the event was apt and timely considering the fact that it sought a paradigm shift that would urgently address the worrisome situation of insecurity in most parts of the country.
According to him, an insecured environment would impinge directly on meaningful socie-economic development of any nation as well as destablish the economy, resulting to high level of poverty with its concomitant problems.
He asserted that the roles of traditional rulers in ensuring peace should be seriously looked into with a view to givng it a constitutional backing.
Meanwhile, the Founder and Facilitator, of National Development Summit for Traditional Rulers, Dr Ransom Emenari asserted that the traditional rulers were the right people to bring about Peace in a nation replete of insecurity, as well as unifying the country, pointing to the high respect and credibility the traditional rulers command.
He further stated that the traditional rulers were not voted in with fixed tenures like the politicians noting that their impacts would be felt more.
He said, “the traditional rulers were the closest leadership to the people.”
