The Indigenous Ethnic Youth Leaders of Nigeria has called on the Federal Government to henceforth change its gear and sit up for effective leadership in the face of the roaring monster of insecurity in the country.

Speaking with our reporter in a recent ethnic youth leaders’ meeting in Enugu, Enugu State, the national chairman of the body, Comrade (Engr) Nensok Gonet, said it has become necessary for the Federal Government to stop playing the ostrich but pull all its weight to end the killings and kidnapping of innocent citizens of the country by bandits, ISWAP, Boko Haram, and so called unknown gunmen.

He bemoaned the situation where terrorists have field days taxing and levying the poor indigenous people with impunity, in their communities, with no effort by the security operatives to curb the heinous crime of daylight robbery. This, he said, has put question marks on the sincerity of the government in the fight against terrorism.

He argued that no responsible government would waite to be lampooned into taking action against deadly squads of terrorists holding the citizens hostage, demanding ransom payments, adding that it was time the federal government save itself the embarrassment of negotiating with terrorists.

In his words, “The late Head of State, General Sani Abacha had clearly stated that, any insurrection in the country that last for 48 hours has the government’s hand in it. This is very true in the way and manner the Federal Government has been pampering the bandits and so called repentant Boko Haram and ISWAP members”.

Gonet went ahead to advise the Presidency not to take Nigerians for granted for enduring the severe hardship imposed on the country out of clueless handling of the economy and parochial political decisions that are tearing everything and everyone apart.

The national indigenous ethnic youth leaders’ chairman who is also the national president of Ngas Youth Movement in Plateau State said the youth leaders of all indigenous ethnic nationalities in the country are uncomfortable with the levity with which President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is handling serious security matters in the country, adding that what he takes as a play-thing may boomerang to consume him and generations of his children and kindred tomorrow.

The Indigenous Ethnic Youth Leaders of Nigeria, he said, is an umbrella body of all ethnic nationalities youth leaders representing the over 400 ethnic nationalities in Nigeria, and that the general feeling of the youths in the country is that of frustration and despair, going by the government’s insensitivity to their plights, security and well-being.

He further stated that Nigeria has no reason to be mentioned among developing nations of the world if not for mediocrity, Nepotism, greed, Jingoism, and self-aggrandisement, all of which culminate in the roaring monsters of corruption afflicting the country with untold hardship and dearth.

On the 2023 Presidential election, Engr. Nensok Gonet said the Indigenous Ethnic Youth Leaders of Nigeria is carefully watching the political developments in the country ahead of the election, adding that the body would have to take it’s stand soon on the direction that will bring about a lasting peace and security of all ethnic groups in the country.
