INEC Displays Voters Register at Polling Units Ahead FCT Election, Calls For Peaceful Participation
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its readiness to conduct a credible and peaceful election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following the completion of key electoral preparations.
Speaking at an expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, the Honourable Resident Electoral Commission, Mallam Aminu Kasimu Idris noted that since the beginning of the electoral process, it has successfully monitored political party primaries, published the personal particulars of candidates, supervised campaigns, conducted the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, and facilitated the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) by eligible voters.
Idris also confirmed that the Register of Voters has been published and copies distributed to all political parties contesting the election. The Commission has further held several engagements with stakeholders and the media to ensure maximum publicity and voter awareness ahead of Election Day.
As part of additional measures to ease voter participation, INEC announced the display of the voters register at polling units across the FCT. This initiative, the Commission explained, is aimed at helping voters identify their correct polling units in advance, particularly in response to challenges experienced during the 2022 election due to voter migration.
However, with preparations largely concluded according to the FCT REC, INEC issued appeals to all stakeholders to support the peaceful and successful conduct of the election.
The REC urged voters to come out en masse to cast their votes, called on the media to provide accurate and responsible information, encouraged party agents to play their roles appropriately, and appealed to security agencies to ensure a safe environment for the exercise.
FCT REC also called on election observers to report objectively and reminded its ad hoc staff of the need for diligence and professionalism in carrying out their duties.
The Commission expressed optimism for a successful election and reiterated its commitment to delivering a transparent, credible, and inclusive electoral process in the FCT.
