Abuja (Core Reporters) The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday decorated 30 newly promoted senior police officers comprising 13 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 17 Commissioners of Police (CPs), urging them to provide exemplary leadership anchored on integrity, professionalism and compassion.
Speaking at the decoration ceremony held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP described the promotions as a recognition of years of dedicated service, resilience and commitment to the ideals of the Nigeria Police Force.

He said the elevation of the officers reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to a promotion system based on merit, competence and performance.
“Your elevation is a testament to your professionalism, resilience and dedication. It reaffirms our resolve to sustain a promotion system that rewards merit, competence and performance,” Disu stated.
The IGP, however, acknowledged the enormous challenges confronting senior police officers, noting that the newly promoted officers were assuming higher responsibilities at a time of increasing security demands, prolonged separation from their families and heightened public expectations.
“I know what it costs to serve under these conditions because many of you have paid that price personally. Missed birthdays, months away from home, and nights in the field while your families held things together without you. Those sacrifices are not lost on this institution and will not be forgotten,” he said.
Disu reminded the officers that their promotion was not merely a reward for past achievements but a vote of confidence in their ability to lead effectively in the future.
He charged them to uphold the highest standards of integrity, warning against misconduct, abuse of office and corruption, while also treating officers under their command with fairness and empathy.

“I expect you to lead with uncompromising integrity and zero tolerance for misconduct, abuse of office or corruption. But I also expect you to lead with humanity because the officers under your command are watching not only what you demand of them but how you care for and protect them,” he said.
The Police boss reiterated his vision of building a modern, intelligence-led and technology-driven police force capable of responding effectively to contemporary security challenges.
According to him, the ultimate goal of policing is to ensure safer communities, protect families and earn public trust through fairness, professionalism and respect for human rights.
“Public confidence is not a public relations exercise. It is the difference between a tip that saves a life and a silence that costs one,” he added.
Disu assured the newly promoted officers of the Force’s continued commitment to their welfare, training and professional development, urging them to mentor younger officers with honesty, patience and a genuine commitment to nurturing future leaders.
He also paid tribute to the families of the promoted officers, acknowledging the sacrifices they had made over the years.
“Every posting you endured alone, every worry you carried in silence, every sacrifice you made without recognition—this rank belongs to you as much as it does to the officer wearing it,” he said.
The IGP expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support for the Nigeria Police Force and commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring a transparent, fair and credible promotion process.
Congratulating the newly decorated officers, Disu urged them to wear their new ranks with humility and pride while inspiring younger officers through exemplary leadership.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to building a professional, disciplined and accountable institution dedicated to protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians.
