Gen. Musa Assures NIS Leadership of DHQ Readiness to Partner It to Revive Sports in Nig.
Abuja (Core Reporters) In its quest to reduce insecurity and criminality among youths in Nigeria, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has expressed its willingness to partner with the National Institute of Sports (NIS) to revive sports in Nigeria.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, disclosed this on Tuesday, July 2, when he received the Director-General/CEO of NIS, Mr. Phillip Shaibu, who led his delegation to paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja.
General Musa highlighted the importance of sports in promoting human physical health and development, as well as reducing the risks of insecurity and criminality among youths. He lamented the current state of sports in Nigeria, which he believes affects the country’s overall development.
The CDS called on the NIS leadership to work towards revamping the image of sports in Nigeria.
In response, Mr. Shaibu stated that his visit is aimed at creating awareness, identifying key stakeholders, and explore areas of collaboration, particularly in training and coach development.
Mr. Shaibu emphasized that sports has the potential to compete with other sectors in the country and informed the CDS of the presidential directives to reactivate sporting activities in Nigeria.
