Finally Tinubu Sacks Kyari as NNPCL’s GCEO, Engr. Ojulari Takes Over
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reconstituted the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited board, effective April 2, 2025. Here’s the breakdown.
Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari, formerly Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company has been appointed to take over from Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari as the Group chief executive officer, (GCEO). And Ahmadu Musa Kida, a seasoned oil industry expert and former basketball player as a Non-Executive Chairman.
New Board Member: Six non-executive directors representing Nigeria’s geopolitical zones are Bello Rabiu (North West), Yusuf Usman (North East), Babs Omotowa (North Central), former Managing Director of Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Austin Avuru (South-South) and David Ige (South West), Henry Obih (South East).
Others are; Adedapo Segun, Chief Financial Officer, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Financier and Aminu Said Ahmed, representing the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

Their objective is to target the reconstitution aims to enhance operational efficiency, restore investor confidence, boost local content, drive economic growth, and advance gas commercialization and diversification.
Key targets include, Increasing investment to $30 billion by 2027 and $60 billion by 2030, Raising oil production to 2 million barrels daily by 2027 and 3 million daily by 2030, Boosting gas production to 8 billion cubic feet daily by 2027 and 10 billion cubic feet by 2030 and boosting Elevating NNPC’s share of crude oil refining output to 200,000 barrels by 2027 and 500,000 by 2030
Tinubu dissolved the previous board, chaired by Chief Pius Akinyelure and led by Group CEO Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari. Meanwhile, the new board has been tasked with conducting a strategic portfolio review of NNPC-operated and Joint Venture Assets to ensure alignment with value maximization objectives
