The project which is funded by China, Nigeria NEXIM Bank was awarded to boost generation of power for transmission and distribution to consumers in Nigeria.

Conducting journalists round the project site the Chief Resident Engineer, Okpeyemi Lansebe disclosed that the contract was awarded to a Chinese Electrical Engineering Firm with a contract duration of12 months, saying the contract is 90 percent completed to be delivered in December this year. According to him, the contract is funded 75 percent by Chinese NEXIM Bank, while the Nigerian government has 25 percent counterpart funding.

He said the Zungeri Dam has four turbines and the engineering design sophisticated enough to allow the electronic control of the operations of the dam from the Abuja control room.

He said Nigeria generates adequate power, but has challenges on the transmission and distribution networks, stressing that the Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN has to develop the capacity to transmit existing megawatts of electricity, especially as Zunveru will commence operations soon.

He expressed satisfaction at the provision of adequate security by the Federal government to protect power equipment and installation, arguing that the Power Project at Tegina is stalled by the level of insecurity in the area.
