The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye has said that the era of vain advocacy in the ministry are over, saying that empowerment would go down to the rural women as against the usual way of doing things.
She made this known on Monday in her office in Abuja while briefing news men on the management’s resolution to change the narrative on the way things were done in the ministry.
Hon Minister says, women are key to development in any society, saying that unfortunately in Nigeria it has not been so. But, she insisted that the current leadership of the country led by His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is already changing the narrative so that things would start working well for the women and by implication the nation.
She said, over times, advocacy towards gender base violence, specifically female genital mutilation seems not working therefore, the current leadership in the ministry together with the directors have decided to use another method of handling issues at the ministry outside advocacy
She noted that they (Ministry of Women Affairs) have met with the Attorney General of the federation towards establishing a mobile court where such issues would be handle and offenders prosecuted. Meanwhile, she said she would be meeting with state governors on the same issue.
According to her, “We are working in collaboration with the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, Governors forum, Civil Society Organisations to have innovative way of enforcing gender base violence to justice by having mobile courts for quick dispensation of Justice for the survival of the voiceless.
“This is inline with President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, we are working to allow the poor to breathe,” she said
