EndBadGovernance: Nigerian Court Bows To Pressure Strikes Out Treason Charges Against 119 Nigerian
Abuja (Core Reporters) It has been a week long of hot trading, and attacks and counter attacks on the Nigerian police force as well as the judiciary as a report of how 119 #Endbadgoveenance protests including 32 minors were detained for three months by the police filter into the air, coupled with the court stiff bail conditions
Sequel to this, Nigerians in all walks of lives took to the social media, online, and conventional media to registered their displeasure over the decision of the court and action of the police against the children.
Consequently, on Tuesday a Federal High Court in Abuja came under pressure and struck out the treasonous charges brought against the 119 Nigerians including 76 others, among were 32 children who were detained since August for participating in the #EndBadGovernance protest.
Recall that Nigerians expressed outrage over the arraignment of 76 suspects, including 32 minors, before Justice Obiora Egwuatu at the Abuja division of the Federal High Court for participating in the #EndBadGovernance protests in August
As a way of damage control, Obiora Egwuatu, the presiding judge, on Tuesday struck out the case following an application by M.D Abubakar, counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).
Abubakar had applied to take over and discontinue the suit.
At the session on Tuesday, Abubakar prayed the court to allow the AGF take over the charge.
Meanwhile, it was reported that following their rejection at Kuje Prison, the malnourished minors were detained by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in a facility meant for adults at the Intelligence Response Team unit in the Apo area of the Federal Capital Territory
The kids who were granted bail on stringent terms by Justice Obiora Egwuatu were 24. Still, about 20 of them had been hospitalised at an undisclosed hospital, sources told SaharaReporters on Friday night.
Earlier on Monday, President Bola Tinubu ordered the release of the underage children arraigned before an Abuja Federal High Court on Friday, November 1, following national and international outrage and condemnation.
