Nigeria only female Taekwondo athlete that qualified to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Elizabeth Anyanacho has revealed that her plan is to win a Gold medal at her maiden appearance at the Olympic
Anyanacho who won her first competition in the 2017 World Tae-Kwondo Open Championship in Ghana in 2017, secured bronze at the 2019 African Games and she defeated Rio 2016 Olympian and 2015 African Games champion Urgence Mouega of Gabon to secure a Tokyo 2020 place at the qualifying event in Morocco.
In a chat with newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, Ayanacho said her target for the Tokyo Olympics is to win a gold medal.
She stated further that every athlete’s target is to win the gold and that exactly is her target, adding that she in the right frame of mind to go out there a make Nigeria proud.
On her preparation she said, she is receiving the best of preparation from her coach Chika Chukwumerije, Nigeria an Olympics bronze medalist. According to her, “He is a great mentor to me. He has taken me to great training because he has a lot of experience in the game and he was a successful Taekwondo athlete so I am getting well with the training and I hope I will do well at the Olympics.”
Anyanacho further revealed that she monitoring are likely opponents at the Olympics, though some of them are champions at their respective continents and countries and full of experiences but she is poise to make Nigeria when the games kick off in Tokyo at the later date.
When asked whether she under pressure to perform well at the Olympics she said, “I won’t say I have any fears in me, but I will rather say the pressure is there anyway.”
Meanwhile, Chika admitted that when he watched her in Ghana in 2017, he concluded that she will go to places because she has so much raw talent.
