Ekong Expresses Satisfaction With 2-0 Victory Over Rwanda’s Amavubi
Uyo (Core Reporters) Super Eagles’ captain William Ekong has expressed his satisfaction with the team’s 2-0 victory over Rwanda’s Amavubi, stating that it was the perfect statement to make at the halfway mark of the World Cup qualifying campaign. Ekong emphasized the importance of the win, but also acknowledged that there is still much work to be done to secure qualification.
Ekong believes that the victory over Rwanda was a crucial statement to make, demonstrating the team’s capabilities and intent.
He emphasized that the team has started the recovery process in a positive way, but there is still much work to be done.
Ekong praised the team’s leadership and teamwork, highlighting the contributions of players like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Simon Moses.
The captain expressed his motivation to rally the troops ahead of the next match against Zimbabwe, emphasizing the team’s ambition to play at the FIFA World Cup
“We read somewhere that the Zimbabweans are being motivated to come to Uyo and get a result. They should forget it. We are hugely motivated by the ambition to play at the FIFA World Cup. Apart from myself and Alex (Iwobi) and perhaps a couple others, who were part of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, this generation is hungry to play at the highest level. We want to make Nigeria proud and at the same time, do ourselves proud,” Ekong said.
Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen, who scored a brace in the match against Rwanda, also expressed his readiness for the next challenge, stating that the remaining matches are “wars” that the team must fight to win.
