Abuja (Core Reporters) The National Legal Adviser (NLA) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Murtala Aliyu Kankia, Esq. has called on Nigerians to continue supporting the economic and development reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while demanding accountability and measurable results from the government.
Kankia made the call in his Eid-el-Maulud message to Muslims, urging Nigerians to recognise the progress recorded so far under the Tinubu administration and remain supportive of policies aimed at repositioning the country’s economy.
He said the occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the values of justice, honesty, compassion, consultation and responsible leadership exemplified by Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), stressing that these principles remained relevant to Nigeria’s political and governance challenges.
The APC NLA said the Renewed Hope Agenda should remain central to the country’s development efforts, particularly in the areas of economic reform, infrastructure, human capital development, security and social protection.
According to him, Nigerians should assess government policies based on their impact on livelihoods, the economy, education, infrastructure, security and opportunities available to citizens, rather than through partisan considerations.
Kankia said the reforms being implemented by the Tinubu administration were intended to create a stronger foundation for sustainable economic growth, urging citizens to support policies that advance national development while constructively demanding accountability from public officials.
“Leadership is a responsibility, not merely a privilege. The Renewed Hope Agenda must continue to be driven by policies that improve the lives of Nigerians, while those in government must remain accountable to the people,” he said.
He called for sustained public support for government efforts to strengthen the economy, expand infrastructure, improve education and skills development, enhance national security and deepen social protection.
However, Kankia stressed that supporting government reforms should not amount to abandoning the responsibility of holding leaders accountable.
He urged public officials to remain responsive to the needs of citizens and ensure that government policies translate into tangible and measurable improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
2027 Politics
With political activities expected to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, the APC NLA urged political actors to make the forthcoming contest a battle of ideas, policies and development records.
He cautioned politicians against using religious, ethnic or inflammatory sentiments to gain political advantage, stressing that national unity and stability should remain above individual ambitions.
Kankia also urged APC members, aspirants and supporters to pursue their political ambitions within the framework of the law and democratic institutions.
He appealed to religious leaders to use their platforms to promote peaceful coexistence, responsible citizenship and tolerance while discouraging hate speech, violence and political manipulation.
The APC legal chief particularly warned young Nigerians against allowing themselves to be used as instruments of political violence, urging them to participate actively and peacefully in the democratic process.
He further called on Nigerians to pray for President Tinubu, other national leaders and the peace and progress of the country.
Kankia said the lessons of Eid-el-Maulud should go beyond the celebration, urging Nigerians to embrace justice, tolerance, compassion, patriotism and service to humanity.
He expressed optimism that Nigeria would approach the 2027 elections with greater political maturity, with candidates increasingly judged by their ideas, records and capacity to deliver rather than divisive rhetoric.
“The ultimate measure of any government or political leadership should be its ability to improve the welfare of citizens and strengthen the country’s future,” he said.
Kankia felicitated the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud and prayed for peace, prosperity and stability across Nigeria.
“As we celebrate Eid-el-Maulud, let us remember that leadership is service. We must continue to support what is good for Nigeria, demand accountability where necessary, and place the national interest above personal and political ambition,” he added.
