Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, a federal lawmaker representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State, has reportedly survived an assassination attempt.
Okojie, who is married to Nollywood star Mercy Johnson, was allegedly attacked by armed men suspected to be political thugs at his residence in Uromi on Friday morning.
Michael Ihaza, Okojie’s media aide, confirmed the incident in a statement.
According to the statement, the attackers arrived at the lawmaker’s residence in a Lexus GX 470 with a Rivers State license plate number – PHC 253 FF. However, their assassination attempt was thwarted by the intervention of Okojie’s security personnel.
The statement detailed that the armed thugs, disguised as police officers, entered Okojie’s residence under the guise of having an appointment and made their way to the sitting room.
Thanks to the swift action of the lawmaker’s security team, two of the assailants fled, leaving behind the driver and another individual, both of whom are now being interrogated by the Nigeria Police Force in Uromi.
The suspects have reportedly confessed that they were sent by leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Esan North East Local Government Area.
Efforts to obtain a comment from the Edo State Police Command were unsuccessful
