Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau has appreciated some highly placed individuals in the country following the success so far recorded by the Super Eagles at the ongoing African Cup of Nation’s (AFCON) in Cote D’Ivoire
Among those praised were; His Excellency,President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,GCFR, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio,not forgetting Nigeria’s member in FIFA, Amaju Pinnick as the Super Eagles put smiles on the faces of Nigerians by grabbing the first semi final ticket in Ivory Coast.
The NFF president spoke to nff.com and said he would attribute the success of the Super Eagles to some major stake holders who have done the work excellently to make sure the team continue to progress.
His words, “Let me tell you something: that virtual interaction that our Father of the Nation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) had with the players prior to the match against Angola was highly motivating and inspiring at the same time. He told them to go for it because they can do it and that they have the capacity to go all the way. The players told me his words kept ringing in their ears”
“We also commend the President of the Senate, Chief Godswill Akpabio (CON) for finding the time to come all the way to Abidjan to cheer the Eagles to victory against the Angolans. It was a very tough game but the players knew the whole of Nigeria was behind them having heard the words of Mr. President and knowing that the country’s number three man was in the stands cheering them on.”
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have defied all odds and have scaled through to the Semi Finals of the 34th edition of Africa’s biggest football fiesta, defeating hosts Ivory Coast and rivals Cameroon in the process.
“I must also give kudos to Nigeria’s Member of the esteemed FIFA Council, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, my predecessor in office. He has been amazing in the way he has supported everything we are doing and provided valuable advice every now and then. He is a real patriot with so much passion and the NFF is grateful to him.”
Up next for the Super Eagles is a trip to Bouake for the semi final clash with the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
Rivalry would be ignited once again on Wednesday evening we the Super Eagles look to progress to the finals and bring the trophy home.
