DHQ Arraigns 36 Personnel Over Alleged Mutiny, Sets Up Court Martial

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on April 24, 2026, inaugurated a General Court Martial to try 36 serving military personnel over allegations of mutiny, reportedly aimed at undermining the government.
The move follows an earlier statement issued by the DHQ on January 26, 2026, addressing the matter.
The inauguration marks a significant step toward reinforcing discipline, accountability, and the Armed Forces’ commitment to protecting national integrity and constituted authority.
According to the director of defence information, Major General Samaila Uba, proceedings will be conducted with strict adherence to due process, ensuring fairness, impartiality, and respect for the rights of all personnel. The military authorities assured that justice would be administered without fear or favour, in line with existing legal frameworks guiding the military justice system.
The DHQ reiterated its resolve to uphold professionalism, discipline, and the rule of law, while maintaining the principles of fair hearing throughout the trial process.
