Corruprion: C’River State Budgets Another N100 Million In 2025 For Renovation Of Governor’s Residence.
After budgeting N2bn in 2024 for renovation of governor’s residence, the Cross River State government has again in 2025 proposed budget budgeted another N100m for the same governor’s residence.
In 2025, another sum of N100 million was budgeted for furnishing of governor’s residence while the furnishing of governor’s lodge is expected to gulp another N100 million.
Recall that the renovation of governor’s lodge gulfed N500 million in 2024, its expected to gulp another N100 million again in 2025. This has confirmed that Cross River State has a history of high expenditures on governors’ lodges, residence.
The state spent another N5.5 billion to purchase SUVs, Prado Jeeps, Hyundai Elantra between January and September 2024.
Another sum of N9.6 billion was spent on buying Prado jeeps, Hyundai Elantra for ministries, departments and agencies.
The prioritisation of renovations of government lodge, residence is despite the state having 1.9 million poor persons per details on the multidimensional poverty index of the National Bureau of Statistics.
It is also despite the fact that 36% of children are denied access to education, 82% of households in the state lack access to sanitary facilities, 81% of households in the state lack access to clean drinking water.
There have been concerns on priority spendings by states especially amid stated poor economic resources in terms of revenue.
As of June 2024, Cross River State owes N155.4 billion domestically, the state also owes another $210 million externally.
