Benue police command arraigns 46-year-old commercial motor cyclist for rape

The Benue State police command on Tuesday, arraigned a 46-year-old commercial motor cyclist, Sunday Alexander of Otukpo town before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate court, for raping a 14-year-old girl.

Prosecuting police officer, Asp Hyacinth Gbakor told the court that on the 2nd  of September, 2020, one Julie Okoh of SHE Foundation in Otukpo, reported to the Otukpo Divisional police Headquarters that the 14 years old victim who was given to the accused also of the same address by her step brother, Atsaga Benedict of Gwer West Local Government in Naka on the instructions of her late father to take care of her as a friend, but on the said Sunday Alexander enticed her by promising that he would send her to school and under that deceit, has been forcefully having sexual intercourse with her against her consent and as a result, she became pregnant for him.

The police further stated that during its investigation, the accused was arrested and he confessed committing the alleged crime.

When the case came up for mention, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction while prosecution said investigation was still ongoing and asked for another date.

Corereporters report that the Chief Magistrate, Mr Vincent Kor Esq ordered that the accused be remanded at the Nigeria Correctional Center, Makurdi and adjourned the case to 22nd October, 2020 for further mention.
