Having experienced what was adjudged by basketball stakeholders in the country as the worst administration of Basketball in the last four years, stakeholders have been assured of a well-loaded package under the new administration of Igoche Mark.
The newly elected NBBF President has reiterated his earlier promises to revamp the game of basketball in the country as he said his administration will soon roll out the development program for basketball in the country.
However, Mark explained that the Mark D Ball Basketball Championship which will dunk off on Sunday for the men’s categories after the conclusion of the women’s a few days back was his pet project gears towards the development of the game and the main actors (players), saying that the championship is not that of the federation but insisting that the federation will roll out bigger programs for the game very soon.
The Men’s version which comprising of 24 teams was billed to dunk off January 22, at the Indoor Sports Hall, located in Package B of the MKO Abiola National Stadium Abuja but was pushed forward due to the usage of the venue for a Table Tennis tournament and now will dunks off on Sunday.
The teams have been pooled into 3 Groups – A, B, and C; as they will take turns to play each other in a round-robin format, weekly – starting with Group A.
The Mark D Ball teams in Group A consist of Gombe Bulls, Police Batons, Apa Flames, Hot Coal Ballers, Nile University Spartans, AHIP Giants, Mo Heat and Safety Knights.
“For 10 years and counting, Mark D Ball Basketball Championship has been my pet project even before I emerged as the President of NBBF. The championship is geared towards the development of the game (Basketball). It is a mixture of sport, entertainment and rewards.
“ As stated in the press release I issued a few days ago, the NBBF under my watch is committed to developing and expanding the scope of Basketball in Nigeria. All stakeholders in Basketball including the media will benefit from our programmes.”Mark said.
