APEC Pays Tribute to Late Prince Eka, Says Energy Sector Has Lost a Gem

Abuja (Core Reporters) — The power and energy sector in Nigeria was thrown into mourning on Sunday, September 13, 2026, following the death of the Cross River State Commissioner for Energy and Power, Hon. Prince Williams Eka.

Prince Eka, who also served as Chairman of the Forum of Commissioners for Energy and Power in Nigeria, reportedly died in Abuja after he allegedly collapsed and was rushed to a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory.

His death has been described as a painful loss not only to the Government and people of Cross River State but also to Nigeria’s wider energy community, where he was regarded as a committed stakeholder in the pursuit of improved electricity access and sustainable energy development.

As Commissioner for Energy and Power, Prince Eka was associated with efforts to advance the energy agenda of Cross River State and promote greater attention to the critical role of electricity in driving economic growth, investment, job creation and improved living standards.

His engagements with stakeholders, including the media, reflected his understanding of the importance of accurate information, public accountability and constructive collaboration in addressing the challenges confronting Nigeria’s power sector.

The Abuja Power and Energy Correspondents (APEC) particularly mourns the loss of a public official whose responsibilities placed him at the centre of important conversations on energy development and whose service contributed to the broader national discourse on strengthening Nigeria’s electricity value chain.

In a statement signed by its Secretary, Mr. Raphael Ekpang, APEC described the death of Prince Eka as a colossal loss to Nigeria’s power and energy sector, noting that his contributions and engagements would be missed by stakeholders across the industry.

APEC extended its heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Cross River State, his colleagues, associates, friends and, most importantly, members of his immediate family.

The association prayed that God Almighty would grant the family the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“May the soul of Hon. Prince Eka rest in eternal peace. Amen.”
