The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is gearing up for a pivotal National Convention in Abuja, with no fewer than 8,453 delegates expected to shape the party’s leadership direction and strategic future.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed the figure on Thursday, March 26, during a world press briefing at Transcorp Hilton Abuja, underscoring the scale and significance of the gathering.

Scheduled to hold from March 27 to 28 at Eagle Square, the convention is expected to serve as a major test of the party’s internal cohesion, with leadership elections, policy debates, and strategic alignments all on the agenda.
Idris assured that comprehensive security and logistics frameworks have been activated to ensure a smooth and incident-free exercise, signaling the party’s determination to deliver a credible and well-coordinated event.
Framing the convention as more than a routine political exercise, he described it as a critical moment for consolidation and direction-setting under the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“This convention represents a defining moment for the APC—a platform to reinforce unity, deepen democratic values, and reposition the party for the next phase of national development,” he said.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Central Working Committee, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, the former government of Katsina state, expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness, noting that all committees have finalized arrangements to ensure seamless execution.
Beyond logistics, party leaders are projecting the convention as a show of strength and resilience, highlighting the APC’s evolution into a broad-based platform capable of managing diverse political interests while maintaining internal stability.
Dignitaries present at the briefing included the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Vice Chairman of the Central Committee, Pius Akinyelure; Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare; and Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Director General of National Orientation Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu among other party stakeholders
As the convention opens, attention will not only be on leadership outcomes but also on how effectively the APC navigates internal dynamics and positions itself ahead of future electoral contests—making this gathering a crucial barometer of the party’s unity and political momentum.
