Senator John Owan Enoh flagged off by the FCT NUJ chairman, Emmanuel Ogbuche and CROSSJOF President, Gabriel Odu at the parley
Senator John Owan Enoh has stated that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) can only win Cross River State governorship election in 2023 if the party gives him the ticket.
Sen. Enoh made this known on Wednesday in Abuja during a parley with Cross River State Journalists (CROSSJOF), Abuja chapter.
The former senator who represented the Cross River Central in the 8th Senate explained that if the APC really want to win the gubernatorial election in 2023 then they really need a candidate who has a good will of the people and whom the electorates can trust.
He noted that some times ago the leadership of the APC in the state called a meeting for all the party governorship aspirants and they were asked by the State party chairman to withdraw from the race to him (Chairman) to pick the ticket for the governorship alone, claiming that by zoning it was the turn of the South to produce the next governor.
The former House of Reps appropriation Committee chairman explained further that the voting strength in Cross River State is domiciled in the central, that if the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by their wisdom can thrown their contest open for the best candidate then APC needs to follow the same rout because that would be the only way out to make Cross River an APC state comes 2023.
He insisted that if eventually Senator Sandy Onor emerges as the PDP flag bearer, it will only take a candidate like himself who has the good will and a wide spread followership across the length and breast of the state to win the election for the APC otherwise APC may be joking,
“It will interest you to note that some times ago the leadership of our party in the state called us for a meeting of governorship aspirants. I attended the meeting, although I was advised not to go reason that It was a trap on me. Out of the three aspirants from the central senatorial district I was the only person in attendance and our state party chairman asked us to allow him pick the ticket alone for the position, but I insisted that if one person should be allowed to pick the ticket then it must be me.
“I think because I contested under the party ticket in 2019 I deserved to be giving the party ticket . Meanwhile, I think APC needs to learn from the PDP in the state who have thrown their ticket open to all candidates because as it stands now the three zones have produced governor each, so who ever wins now the zoning starts counting from there,”he maintained.
When asked if he will dump the APC for another party to actualise his dream of becoming the governor of Cross River State in 2023 if APC fail to give him the ticket he said, ” APC will surely gives me the ticket, but if they don’t when we get to the bridge we will cross.”
