APC Knocks Amaechi Over Mother’s Medical Bills, Says “You’re Unfit for VP Role”
By Our Reporter
Abuja (Core Reporters) — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, over his reported claim that he could not afford medications for his late mother, describing the development as evidence of his alleged unfitness for the office of Vice President.
Amaechi, a former two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor and former Minister of Transportation, is currently the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said it prayed for the peaceful repose of Amaechi’s mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, while also questioning the former governor’s account of his financial circumstances.
The party recalled Amaechi’s reported statement that he had become so financially constrained that his wife was feeding him, as well as his more recent claim that he could not afford medications for his mother before her death at the age of 89.
The APC said it found it difficult to reconcile the claims with Amaechi’s decades in public office, during which he served in several prominent positions.
“For four decades, Rotimi Amaechi freeloaded at the highest levels of public office,” the party alleged, arguing that he had previously been able to provide for himself and his family.
The ruling party further questioned how Amaechi could have become financially distressed only a few years after leaving public office.
It alleged that his reported financial difficulties raised questions about his ability to be productive and sustain himself outside public-office patronage.
The APC also criticised Amaechi’s ambition to become Vice President in 2027, alleging that he was seeking the office to continue benefiting from public resources.
“The presidency is not a soup kitchen, and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi,” the party declared.
The APC concluded that Amaechi’s own public statements, rather than those of his political opponents, provided what it described as the strongest argument against his suitability for the vice-presidential office.
