Abuja (Core Reporters) hThe All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated its National Campaign Council for the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, declaring the poll a crucial test of the party’s readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, described the campaign council as a team of experienced political leaders drawn from across the country, including governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, deputy governors, former elected officials, and other stakeholders.
He said the council was carefully constituted to mobilise both human and material resources to ensure victory for the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
Yilwatda maintained that the APC remained Nigeria’s most formidable political party, boasting the largest pool of experienced politicians and officeholders at all levels of government.
According to him, the Osun governorship election is the last major electoral contest before the 2027 general election and would serve as the party’s “litmus test” and rehearsal for the presidential election.
He said the APC would deploy governors, federal and state lawmakers, local government chairmen, councillors and party officials across the country to conduct intensive grassroots campaigns, including house-to-house and person-to-person mobilisation across all polling units in Osun State.
The APC chairman also stressed the need to mobilise women and youths, urging the party’s women affairs directorate to lead extensive grassroots engagement ahead of the election.
Officially inaugurating the council, he expressed confidence that the calibre of members appointed would ensure the APC’s return to the Osun Government House.
Responding on behalf of the council, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who chairs the campaign council, thanked the party leadership for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to deliver victory.
Uzodimma described the assignment as a solemn responsibility, promising an issue-based, evidence-driven and peaceful campaign anchored on the achievements of the APC-led Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said the campaign would focus on engaging voters across communities, local governments, wards and polling units, while reaching out to workers, farmers, market women, artisans, professionals, youths, traditional and religious leaders, and persons with disabilities.
The Imo governor assured Nigerians that the APC would conduct a peaceful, free and credible campaign, adding that the party would counter misinformation with facts and performance rather than hostility.
“We will organise, mobilise and deliver victory through lawful means. Our campaign will be vigorous without violence, competitive without bitterness and confident without arrogance,” he said.
Also speaking, the APC governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the party leadership for assembling what he described as an impressive campaign council.
Oyebamiji said party supporters across Osun were encouraged by the calibre of political leaders appointed to lead the campaign, expressing confidence that their experience would translate into electoral success.
He said his campaign had reached all parts of the state, engaging traditional rulers, market associations, students, artisans, civil servants, women and youth groups with a message of prosperity, good governance and inclusive development.
According to him, the APC has continued to gain support across Osun’s three senatorial districts, 30 local government areas, 332 wards and 3,762 polling units.
The governorship candidate said the people of Osun were eager for a return to progressive governance and pledged that the APC would pursue victory through lawful and democratic means.
He also assured party leaders of his loyalty to the APC and expressed confidence that, with the support of the campaign council, the party would reclaim Osun State in the August 15 governorship election.
