ALGOVC Honours Cross River Leaders at 8th Annual Conference

The Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen (ALGOVC) has honoured distinguished personalities from Cross River State for their outstanding humanitarian contributions and support for inclusive governance at its just-concluded 8th Annual Conference, held on 10th December 2025 at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.
At the event, Her Excellency, Bishop Dr. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu was conferred with the Award of Humanitarian Services and Support for Women in Politics, in recognition of her unwavering commitment to social development, women empowerment, and humanitarian interventions. The award was received on her behalf by Hon. Amb. Patricia Godwin Iya, Vice Chairman of Odukpani Local Government Council and National Organizing Secretary of ALGOVC.
While receiving the award, Hon. Amb. Patricia Godwin Iya conveyed the appreciation of Her Excellency and reaffirmed her continued commitment to humanitarian service, women’s inclusion in politics, and national development. She further encouraged members of the association to remain united and to sustain collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and building a better Nigeria.
Other notable award recipients from Cross River State included Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, PhD, Deputy Governor of Cross River State, who received the Award for Humanitarian Services in recognition of his people-centered leadership and contributions to social welfare. Also honoured was Dr. Edwin Okon, PhD, Chairman of the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service (IRS), who received an Award of Honour for his exemplary service, institutional reforms, and commitment to public sector development.
The ALGOVC 8th Annual Conference, held in Abuja, served as a platform to celebrate excellence in leadership, humanitarian service and dedication to grassroots development, while reinforcing the association’s resolve to promote unity, good governance and national progress.
