AIG Ewah, NHRC Strengthen Partnership on Human Rights, Safer Osun, Oyo
By Raphael Ekpang
Osogbo (Core Reporters) – The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, AIG Bassey Samuel Ewah, has pledged to strengthen collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to ensure the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights and improve security across Osun and Oyo States.
Ewah made the commitment on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, when he received a delegation from the NHRC Osun State Office, led by its State Director, Mrs. Nneka Anigbo, during a courtesy visit to the Zone.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the NHRC and exploring avenues for sustained inter-agency collaboration in promoting and protecting the fundamental rights of citizens.
Receiving the delegation, the AIG welcomed the team and assured the Commission of his administration’s commitment to sustaining the cordial relationship between both institutions.
Ewah stressed that the Police could not effectively discharge its mandate in isolation, noting that collaboration with security agencies, government institutions, stakeholders and members of the public remained essential to effective policing and the protection of lives and property.
He also underscored the importance of respecting and protecting citizens’ rights in accordance with the law, assuring the delegation that human rights would remain an important consideration in the discharge of policing responsibilities within the Zone.
The AIG appreciated the NHRC for the courtesy visit, particularly as he assumed responsibility as the newly posted Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11.
He reiterated his determination to ensure that peace and security prevail in every part of Osun and Oyo States, while calling on stakeholders to sustain cooperation towards building a safer and more peaceful society.
The meeting further reinforced the importance of institutional cooperation between the Police and the human rights body in addressing rights-related concerns and promoting public confidence in law enforcement.
