: A Cry For Help: Couple Cries Out to FG, NGOs, Nigerians to help Them Reclaim Their Stolen Child

A couple,; Mr and Mrs Bartholomew Bright Ekwok have cried to the government of Nigeria, Non-Governmental Organization’s and well spirited Nigerians to come to their aid as they battle to reclaim their stolen child. Adding that they want justice.
Mrs. Eunice Bright Ekwok, while addressing a world press conference on Tuesday, May 6, in Abuja narrated how she gave birth to a set of twins in ‘Divine Reign Clinic, Sauka Opposite Immigration Quarters, Airport Road, Abuja belonging to one Dr. Timothy Zeje, but was denied of one of her babies by the doctor who happened to be the owner of the clinic.
According to her, “I registered for my Antenatal at Divine Reign Clinic, Sauka Opposite Immigration Quarters, Airport Road, Abuja. I did my scan there at the hospital and the doctor, Timothy Zeje told me that I was carrying a set of twins. The following month I went and did the second scan and he told me the same thing, when I wanted to take the result of the scan home they asked me to drop it in the file, when I told them that my husband, Mr Bartholomew Bright Ekwok will like to see the scan result he told me to go and show my husband and bring it back the following morning which I did.
“When I went for the third scan the doctor (Timothy Zeje) book me for CS in a week’s time. However, when I came to the hospital with my husband for the last scan Dr. Zeje told my husband that his family will be celebrating a set of twins also.”
Mrs Bright Ekwok explained further that when she eventually put to birth through CS on June 11, 2022, at the ‘Divine Reign Clinic, the nurses carried cloths for only one baby and when she asked of the second baby, they told her he was not feeling find, that they were going to fix oxygen on him
She added, “After the conversation they injected me on my shoulder and I slept off, I could not remember anything again, but when I woke up I asked of my twins baby, my husband told me that the doctor gave him only one child. And the baby was breathing so high we called the attention of the doctor and after he examined him, referred refered us to Gwagwalada specialist hospital”
After a while, she continues, “my husband took the baby to Gwagwalada specialist and I confronted one of the nurses and she confided on me that the second bady was death, and after a while I asked of the baby again, now she said the baby has scattered and same thing Dr. Zeje told me and when I requested to see the dead body, till date nothing was shown to me nor my husband.
“One fateful day after some months I took my child to immunization centre elsewhere and I met Dr. Zeje’s wife carrying a baby boy that looks alike with my baby, carrying dreadlock (dada) also like my baby. Thereafter, I went back to the hospital for my scan results but he (Dr. Zeje) refused to give it to me.”
She said at a time she decided to take her destiny ino her hands and she stormed Dr. Zeje’s private house and demanded for her child and he oblige her and pointed to her baby on the instruction that she should take the baby and relocate from the area they were staying and she assured him of relocating to Ghana, but on trying to live their house his wife held her and called the police claiming that she stole her baby.
She said when she was taken to police station after interrogation they asked if she has money to open a case file and she said no, immediately they stated manhandling her and when her husband came they detained both of them for days before releasing them on the condition that they should go to the court and depose affidavits that they went to his house to steal his child and because they have no one on their side they deposed the affidavit under duress.
However, Mr. Bartholomew Bright Ekwok, Eunice’s husband said, after much intimidation and threats they ran away to his state, Cross River for his life and that of his family. Therefore, he is calling on the government of President Bola Tinubu, and all Nigerians to come to his aid and help them to reclaim their stolen baby.
Meanwhile, the Initiator of ‘Think Cross River, Papa Dorn Cklaimz Enamhe who accompanied the couple to the venue of the press conference said, his organization as well as the entire Crossrivarians are solely behind the couple and they are ready to make sure the perpetrators of this crime against their children did not go skull free.
He said, the government of Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu will stop at nothing to make sure the Brights family gets the justice they deserve. He also revealed that all the Federal legislators from Cross River State have expressed interest on the matter, as well as other professional bodies and the Media alike.
“We won’t sit down and watch anyone intimidate our children, whoever has contributed to this crime from the doctor, the police officers or whoever is involved should be ready to contend with the government of Cross River State and her citizens,” he said.
Core Reporters attempts to speak with Dr. Timothy Zeje of the ‘Divine Reign Clinic, Sauka, Abuja proved abortive as calls put to his MTN line were unavailable. Also, calls put to their IPO, Ali at the FCID on his Glo line was not reachable.
