The Chief Executive Officer of Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS) supported by USAID, Mr Andy Eyo has applauded Governor Ben Ayade for the management of COVID-19 in the state and congratulated the Commissioner for Health Dr Betta Edu on her emergence as the National Chairman of the Commissioners for Health in Nigeria, saying that it’s a blessing to the Country, her State and Partners.

Corereportes report that, ECEWS is a leading Indigenous Non-governmental Organization responsible for promoting access to Qualitative Healthcare, education and economic strengthening opportunities helping in the fight against AIDS, TB and Malaria.

Mr. Eyo  made the commendation during a courtesy visit to her, in Calabar recently.

Mr Andy who came in from Abuja appreciated her for the massive support and seamless access she has always accorded them that has so far stimulated a great level of achievement and transformation in the health sector.

According to him,  “I was filled with excitement when i heard of your emergence as the acting Chairman of the Commissioners for Health in Nigeria, going through the electoral process i found out how easy it was for you to emerge as it was a unanimous agreement by all which only shows that you’re doing excellently well. This means a lot to us as partners and Cross River State  must be very proud of you.

“As a result of your immense support Cross River State was basically the only state still in the field supporting other health program services during the hit of the pandemic. We’ve been able to notify over 129 TB cases during the hit up of the COVID-19 pandemic and the follow up has been great and encouraging. Am pleased and proud to inform you that since your appointment as Commissioner for Health, CRS has remained ahead of all other States, your efforts, energy, support, synergy and achievement have been noticed by ECEWS, USAID in terms of reviving the State Logistics Management and Coordination Unit, Your repositioning of SASCAP and SACA ramping up your scores as Sub-recipient of Global funds for HIV/AIDS, well improved Emergency operation Centers, Health Facility upgrades ongoing everywhere, better coordination of partners, which will attract more support and even encouragement to workers to improve productivity amidst a global pandemic is highly applauded. we applaud the Governor Sen Ben Ayade and the entire State for doing wonderfully well.”

Responding, the Commissioner for Health and Chairman of the Nigeria’s Commissioners for Health Forum Dr Betta Edu thanked the CEO and his team for coming and assured them of continuous support and synergy.

“Let me use this medium to appreciate you and your entire staff for standing by us even at our most difficult moment, your support during the hit of the pandemic went a long way for us as a State. Thank you for all the COVID-19 PPEs Veronica Buckets, soap and even Infrared thermometers donated to health facilities across the state. I want to assure you that my emergence as the acting Chairman of the Commissioners for Health in Nigeria is yet another opportunity for me to tighten all lose ends, give partners rooms to achieve their goals as well as galvanize support to build a resilient Health Sector across the Country. We’ll continue to work as a team to keep our people safe and disease free.” She said.

Mr Eyo who stated that more support will be given to the State called on the Federal Government to support States and to always work in tandem with various State’s Commissioners for Health through their Chairman as a gate way to re-brand our Nations Health System. He applauded the State Governor Sen Prof Ben Ayade and the COVID-19 Task force Team for being proactive adding that most persons were expecting massive death in CRS because they felt the State is hiding cases but with the number of low cases recorded so far it only shows the State got it right from the beginning.
