The Benue State government has revealed that it has spent over N20 billion so far to renovate and equipped schools across the state, Corerporters report.

The State Commissioner for Education, Prof Dennis Ityavyar disclosed this on Saturday in Makurdi when he received the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Benue State Council, in his office.

He said the state government has established two schools for the physically challenged persons as part of the administration’s programme of inclusive education, stressing that the physically challenged students would now have the opportunity of writing both the WAEC and the NECO examinations.

Prof Ityavyar explained that both the Akawe Torkula College of Advanced and Professional Studies, Makurdi and the Akperan Orshi College of Agriculture Yandev, has been upgraded to Polytechnics and that the schools can as well access TETFund for their development.

The Commissioner also announced that the e-learning centers approved by Governor Samuel Ortom would take off in the state within the next three months; for the primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. He noted that the training of teachers for the program will soon commence and books made available.

He, therefore, appealed to the journalists to be fair in their reportage of government activities, particularly the Ministry of Education.

Earlier in her address, the Benue state NUJ council Chairperson, Victoria Asher, represented by the Secretary of Council, Moses Akarhan commended the ministry for its giant strides in uplifting the standard of education in the state and giving them a facelift.

She also sued for partnership with the Ministry in the area of education and appealed to the commissioner to extend palliatives to the NUJ Pen School, to enable them to cope with the COVID 19 guidelines and include them in their next phase of renovations.
