Yilwatda: Tinubu’s Reforms Laying Foundation for $1trn Nigerian Economy
By Admin
Abuja (Core Reporters) The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms are laying a solid foundation for a stronger, more productive and prosperous Nigeria.
Yilwatda said the direction and potential of the reforms had received recognition from major international financial institutions, including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The APC National Chairman spoke in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during a rally organised to welcome President Tinubu and his entourage at the Senator Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Addressing party supporters and other enthusiastic residents, Yilwatda described Tinubu’s decision to confront Nigeria’s longstanding structural economic challenges as evidence of courageous leadership necessary to reposition the country for sustainable growth.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, the APC chairman acknowledged that the reforms had imposed difficult adjustments on Nigerians but warned that abandoning them would amount to reversing the country’s progress.
He argued that discontinuing the reforms could return the country to the economic difficulties that made such interventions necessary.
Yilwatda described President Tinubu’s ambition of building a $1 trillion economy as more than a political promise, saying it was a strategic national development target supported by deliberate policy decisions and ongoing economic restructuring.
He identified investments in infrastructure, transportation, education, maritime development and financial inclusion as key pillars of the administration’s economic transformation agenda.
Particularly, he described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a landmark infrastructure project capable of improving connectivity, boosting commercial activities and unlocking economic opportunities for Akwa Ibom and other coastal communities.
According to him, the Federal Government’s commitment to developing the maritime economy would also strengthen the competitiveness of coastal states and expand their contributions to national development.
n education and social investment, Yilwatda commended the student loan initiative for widening access to higher education, while noting that targeted interventions for women and small businesses were creating opportunities for increased economic participation.
He explained that the tax reforms were designed to reduce the burden on low-income earners and small businesses, allowing them to retain more of their earnings and operate in a more favourable business environment.
The APC chairman also highlighted improved industrial harmony in educational institutions and efforts by the administration to settle outstanding obligations to workers, pensioners and retirees of formerly privatised public enterprises.
He urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the reform process, insisting that the country could not afford to abandon the difficult but necessary task of rebuilding its economy.
“Never again should Nigeria return to Egypt. We cannot afford to abandon the difficult but necessary work of rebuilding our economy and repositioning our country for sustainable growth,” he declared.
Yilwatda maintained that the Tinubu administration’s policies and investments were positioning Nigeria for long-term prosperity, urging citizens to support the President’s vision of building a stronger and more economically competitive nation.
