Edo State born social critic and political activist Vincent Chinedu Johnson has condemned the rising incidents of killings by herdsmen as well as armed bandits in the West African nation.
Johnson, who hails from Igbanke in Orhionmwon local Govt Area of Edo State, in the oil producing Niger Delta region of that country spoke to Core Reporters from Dusseldorf, Germany recently.
According to him, the issue of insecurity in the nation of over 200 million people according to the United Nations estimate calls for a more realistic approach by the federal government and other critical stakeholders.
He recalled that his encounter with herdsmen “was a close shave with death”.
The activist recalled that “My father died as a result of Fulani herdsmen attack in 2015 when I returned from the United Kingdom after my Masters Degree I had to organise an activist group though not registered with a view to fighting against the Fulani herdsmen who invade communities to kill, rape and get brutalized defenseless citizens”.
It would be recalled that Johnson also played major roles as a politician in Edo State, South-South Nigeria during the 16 years role of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the President Muhammadu Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC).
As an APC member Johnson played a major role in the campaign team of a renowned academic in University of Benin, Professor Amadasun, a one time gubernatorial aspirant in Edo State.
The state is a flash point for fatal political rivalry as well as other forms of restiveness.
