In a statement released by the Presidency on Saturday, Ngelale announced that he had submitted a memorandum to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gabjabiamila, informing him of his decision to take an indefinite leave.

Ngelale disclosed that he has also relinquished his roles as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and the Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.

Ngelale explained that he is stepping down from his responsibilities to address medical issues currently impacting his close and extended family.

The statement said,  “On Friday, I presented a memorandum to the Chief of Staff to the President, notifying my office that I am commencing an indefinite leave of absence to directly address medical matters currently impacting my immediate nuclear family.

“While I acknowledge that governmental affairs do not pause for anyone, this difficult decision — involving a temporary suspension of my duties as the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity and the Official Spokesperson of the President, the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, and the Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen — was made after extensive discussions with my family over the past few days as a serious medical situation has escalated at home.

“I anticipate resuming full-time national service when circumstances, recovery, and destiny allow. I kindly request privacy for my family and myself during this period,^ the statement read.
