The Olu of Lisa Kingdom, Oba Oladele Odugbemi on Wednesday urged politicians to avoid heating up politics during their campaigns while urging them to shun campaigns of calumny, blackmail, hatred, violence and thuggery. But he enjoined them to rather harp on their programmes and manifestos.

The monarch while giving his New Year message to Nigerians ahead of the 2023 general elections stressed on the need for Nigerians to avoid the act of vote buying and elect God fearing leaders, who would bring the country out of its woes.

Oba Odugbemi while appealing to the electorates to cast their votes for the candidates of their choice, reminded them that their destiny is in their hands as the general elections approaches , hence the need to elect  leaders who will rescue the nation from the present economic hardship facing the entire masses.

He also charged the government at all levels to address the issue of insecurity plaguing the nation as well as the hike in prices of  food stuffs in the market coupled with skyrocketing price of petroleum products that are making life unbearable to the people.

He added that the government should be proactive in policies and programmes that would alleviate the sufferings of the masses by tackling the issue of insecurity and economic crisis being experienced by people.

While calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain an unbiased empire, the monarch appealed to the commission to be truly independent in the conduct of the general elections without taking brief or order from any quarter before, during and after the elections.

Oba Odugbemi also admonished the media, to perform its constitutional roles as spelt out in the constitution by reporting accurately and objectively before, during and after the elections, adding that their an unbiased role in  ensuring that the results of elections are reported accurately without any fear or favour would be best for the country.

Urging members of his community to continue to pray for the growth and development of the Lisa community, he assured them of his continuous provision of developmental projects that will take Lisa town to the next level.

However the monarch called on the state government to give attention to the rehabilitation or reconstruction of Ijoko- Oluke- Oyero- Lisa road axis  begging for attention over two decades.
