Seven Homicide Cases Recorded Nationwide as Police Arrest Four Suspects in 24 Hours

By Our Security Correspondent

Abuja (Core Reporters) The Nigeria Police Force has reported seven homicide incidents across the country within 24 hours, alongside four arrests linked to murder, vandalism and other criminal activities.

The incidents, contained in the Force’s operational summary for November 1, 2026, involved Adamawa, Osun, Borno, Bauchi, Cross River, Niger, Ogun and Akwa Ibom states.

The report also documented an armed robbery incident along the Ife-Osu Expressway in Osun State, a cult-related killing in Cross River State and the drowning of two young men following a canoe accident in Niger State.

In Adamawa State, police rescued a 17-year-old girl, identified as Ummi Saad, from an angry mob after she allegedly threw a three-year-old boy, Abdulrazak Aminu, into a hand-dug drinking water well at Shuwa Village, Madagali Local Government Area.

The incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on October 31. Police operatives reportedly spent several hours attempting to rescue the child, who was eventually recovered and taken to Cottage Hospital, Gulak, where he was confirmed dead.

The incident triggered outrage among residents, who allegedly attempted to lynch and set the suspect ablaze before police intervened. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yola, is investigating the incident.

In Osun State, police arrested Oyebamiji Lekan over the alleged machete killing of 67-year-old Samson Gabriel following an argument over ₦10,000 reportedly belonging to the deceased.

The suspect allegedly inflicted multiple machete cuts on Gabriel, killing him at the scene. Police recovered the weapon, while the corpse was deposited at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

Similarly, in Borno State, police recovered the bodies of two brothers, Umar Mohammed, 30, and Goni Mohammed, 20, at La’mallumti Village, Gubio Local Government Area.

The victims were reportedly discovered by their younger brother, Usman Adamu, with apparent arrow wounds on their chests and other parts of their bodies.

A joint team comprising police personnel, Rangers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force visited the scene. The bodies were photographed before relatives buried them.

In Bauchi State, police launched a manhunt for a 31-year-old suspect, Usuman Aliyu Isah, who allegedly stabbed 25-year-old Usama Idris with a knife during an assault in Zango Area of Bauchi metropolis.

The victim, who sustained deep injuries to his back and forehead, was rushed to the State Specialist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

Cross River State also recorded a cult-related killing, following an attack by suspected members of a secret cult allegedly led by one Solo Nnamdi.

The suspects reportedly attacked and stabbed Patrick Alim during a fight in Ogoja on October 30. He later died at Ogoja General Hospital, while police commenced efforts to track down the fleeing suspects.

In another security incident in Osun State, suspected armed robbers dressed in military camouflage reportedly barricaded the Ife-Osu Expressway at about 2:23 a.m. on October 31, dispossessing motorists of their valuables.

A commercial driver who refused to surrender his vehicle keys was assaulted and injured. He was subsequently treated and discharged from hospital.

Police operatives who responded to the incident reportedly chased the suspects, who escaped into a nearby bush. Bush-combing and tracking operations are ongoing.

Niger State recorded two separate incidents, including the drowning of two young men when a canoe capsized in River Dogo at Echegi Village, Katcha Local Government Area.

The victims, identified as Bandagi Yabagi and Keke Alhaji Shaba, both 20, were reportedly attempting to cross the river to their farm when the accident occurred on November 1.

Police recovered their bodies for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

In a separate incident in Suleja, the lifeless body of an unidentified man, estimated to be about 30 years old, was discovered at Angwan-Kabula Junction with a stab wound to the chest.

The corpse was evacuated to General Hospital, Suleja, for autopsy, while detectives commenced an investigation to establish the victim’s identity and circumstances surrounding his death.

Meanwhile, police in Ogun State are investigating the death of a 44-year-old Chinese national, identified as Yu Yan Jun, a storekeeper with Donfeng Chinese Company along Iperu-Ode Remo Road.

The deceased reportedly complained of ill health after closing from work on October 29. He was said to have been managing high blood pressure and was on medication before he was rushed to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan-Remo, where he was pronounced dead.

His remains were deposited in the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy and the arrival of his family members.

In Akwa Ibom State, police arrested two men, Onyenenus Romanus and Ufanabasi Sunday, over the alleged vandalisation of a construction site belonging to Craneburg Company along Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.

The suspects were intercepted by detectives during a stop-and-search operation along Abak Road while conveying suspected stolen cable wires and iron bars in a tricycle.

Police said the suspects confessed to vandalising the construction site. The recovered materials were taken into custody as investigations continued.

Providing a summary of the operational activities, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said four suspects were arrested nationwide during the period under review.

The police, however, reported no recovery of firearms, live ammunition or stolen vehicles, and no kidnapped victim was rescued during the 24-hour period.

The operational summary also recorded no suspect neutralised, kidnapping, banditry or terrorism incident, while seven homicide cases, one armed robbery-related incident and one cultism-related incident were documented.

The Force said the reported incidents were being investigated by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments.
