The Chairman Senate committee on power, Senator Gabriel Suswam has said that lack of synergy among the generating and distributing companies in Nigeria has remained the major problem of the power sector.
Sen. Suswan made this known on Tuesday at the end of investigative public hearing on a motion titled: “Power Sector Recovery Plan and the Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic”
According to him, liquidity, Tariff and metering are some of the challenges confronting the power sector as well as gas constraint, non-alignment of the power sector.
However, he noted that there is no synergy between Gencos, Discos and Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), adding that non alignment of demand is also a contributory challenge.
In the same vein, members of the senate committee on power who were present at the hearing faulted the presentation of some of the presenters, accusing them of hiding the truth that will help solve the problem of power in the country.
The Executive Secretary, Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC), Dr. Joy Ogaji, during her presentation identified inability to access foreign exchange, Regulatory risk and GENCOS corporate governance as some of the challenges they are facing.
Ogaji however, described the liberalization of the market for operators, transparency in billing collection and remittance and effectiveness of all market agreements as a solution to Nigeria power problem.
The former two terms governor of Benue State and the senate committee chairman on power, Suswam in his closing remarks assured stakeholders and Nigerians as a whole that the committee will submit its findings to the leadership of the Senate believing that the senate will do justices to their reports.
