NISO, Stakeholders Explore Opportunities in Emerging Electricity Market

By Our Reporter

Abuja (Core Reporters) – The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has joined key stakeholders in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) to examine reforms introduced by the Electricity Act 2023 and explore opportunities for developing Nigeria’s emerging multi-level electricity market.

NISO participated in the National Workshop on the Electricity Act 2023 held on Wednesday in Abuja, with its delegation led by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed.

Other members of the delegation were the Company Secretary and General Manager, Legal, Barr. Bashir Ahmed, and the Assistant General Manager, Legal, Hajiya Maryam Gabdo Malabu.

The two-day workshop, held at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, was organised by the Office of the Vice President in collaboration with AllStates Management Partners Solutions Limited.

Discussions centred on the implications of the Electricity Act 2023, particularly the emergence of a multi-level electricity market and the opportunities it presents for states to establish sustainable electricity markets, attract investment and improve power supply.

Participants also examined the implementation of the reforms, emerging challenges and practical approaches to strengthening electricity markets across the country.

The workshop featured panel discussions involving industry experts and other stakeholders, providing a platform for exchanging perspectives on the evolving electricity market structure and identifying strategies for translating the reforms into tangible improvements in electricity supply.

NISO’s participation underscored its engagement with industry stakeholders on issues relating to the implementation of electricity sector reforms and the development of Nigeria’s evolving electricity market.
