NUEE Labour Dispute Disrupts Power Supply in Port Harcourt-TCN

Port Harcourt (Core Reporters) -The ongoing labour dispute between the management of Afam IV Gas Power Station and National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has thrown parts of Port Harcourt and its environs into electricity supply disruption, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said.
TCN made this known on Monday, September 29, 2026, in a statement made available to Core Reporters.
According to TCN, the disruption began on Monday, September 28, 2026, after members of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), Rivers State Chapter, opened the Afam–Alaoji 330kV Transmission Line 2 at the Alaoji 330kV Transmission Substation.
The company said the action was connected to an ongoing labour dispute between the management of Afam IV Gas Power Station and NUEE.
TCN explained that the incident subsequently caused the 150MVA 330/132kV inter-bus transformer at Afam IV to trip, thereby affecting bulk electricity transmission to parts of Port Harcourt and surrounding areas.
The affected transmission facilities include the Port Harcourt Town 132kV Transmission Substation, Elelenwo 132kV Transmission Substation and the 60MVA 132/33kV transformer at the Port Harcourt Mains 132kV Transmission Substation.
The transmission company said it is engaging relevant stakeholders, including the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), towards restoring the affected facilities once conditions permit safe restoration.
“TCN regrets the inconvenience caused to electricity consumers in the affected areas and will continue to provide updates as the situation develops,” the company said.
