APC Triggers Action Ahead of 2027, Backs Tinubu/Shettima, Orders Nationwide Reconciliation

Maiduguri (Core Reporters) — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashìm Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections, while directing a fresh reconciliation drive across its structures nationwide.

The resolutions were reached at the end of a three-day National Strategic Retreat held in Maiduguri, Borno State, which also featured the 195th meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

The retreat, which began on Thursday, September 24, and ended on Saturday, September 26, 2026, brought together members of the NWC, state chairmen and other key stakeholders to review the party’s structures, internal cohesion and preparations for the 2027 elections.

Announcing the resolutions, the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said the review had given the party what he described as a “clean bill of health”, insisting that the APC was strong, healthy and prepared for the 2027 elections.

“We pass a vote of confidence on our presidential candidate, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, and all the other candidates of our party that were elected in the primary elections for the 2027 general election,” Yilwatda said.

The declaration formally reaffirmed the party’s position on the Tinubu-Shettima presidential ticket and the candidates that emerged from its primary elections.

However, the Maiduguri retreat went beyond the endorsement of the presidential ticket, with the party placing internal reconciliation and grassroots mobilisation at the centre of its preparations for the next electoral cycle.

The NWC resolved that reconciliation committees should be established or strengthened at the state, local government and ward levels wherever they were yet to be constituted.

“We resolved that we must continue to make reconciliation where we need to make reconciliation at all levels,” Yilwatda said.

The move is aimed at addressing internal disagreements and strengthening cohesion among party members following the primary elections.

The APC leadership also resolved to take direct control of its nationwide electoral mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls.

“The National Working Committee also resolved to lead the campaign from the front and all the engagement of the party to ensure total victory for all our candidates in the forthcoming general elections,” the communiqué stated.

The party also described its candidates as among the “most pedigreed”, “most acceptable” and “most prepared” to serve Nigerians — assessments representing the position of the APC leadership rather than an independent assessment.

Yilwatda said the party’s strategic review had strengthened the leadership’s confidence in its organisational readiness.

“We get a clean bill of health with the APC as a party. I trust strongly that the party is strong, the party is healthy, the party is prepared, and the party is oiled for 2027 General Elections,” he said.

The Maiduguri resolutions come as political parties and emerging coalitions intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.

For the APC, the latest strategy places less emphasis on the formation of its presidential ticket, which has already been settled, and more on maintaining internal cohesion, strengthening grassroots structures and coordinating its campaign machinery across the country.

The directive covers the party’s structures across the 36 states, 774 local government areas and wards, with reconciliation expected to play a central role in keeping members aligned ahead of the elections.

The APC’s latest position therefore combines three key elements of its 2027 strategy: continued confidence in the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, renewed efforts to resolve internal disagreements and a commitment by the NWC to lead nationwide electoral mobilisation.

The Maiduguri retreat consequently marks another phase in the ruling party’s preparations for 2027, with its organisational strength and ability to translate its national directives into coordinated grassroots action now becoming a major focus of its electoral strategy.
