The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has granted amnesty to some of her members who were aggrieved with the association over electoral and condensation issues

Arisen from its NEC meeting in Abuja on Friday the leadership of SWAN through a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting announced that it has extended a hand of fellowship to misinformed sports journalists who wish to return to the association.

“Following appeals from respected Nigerians and critical stakeholders, NEC extends a hand of fellowship to misinformed sports journalists willing to return to SWAN and urges them to register through the national platform provided for such.

However, SWAN President, Sir Honour Sirawoo in a telephone conversation with Core Reporters said, his leadership derives joy working in unity with all members that is why the issue of members who were misinformed about the direction  of the association took the front burner in their NEC meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.

According to him, having reviewed the circumstances that surrounded the episode NEC members concluded that some persons were misinformed about their quest to move the association to a greater height as such weighed war against themselves. Therefore, as leaders they must possess a big heart that was why they arrived on extending a hand of fellowship to those willing to return to the fold, and such persons must carry out their registration as other members did because they can’t be part of the association if they are not registered members.”

“For you to be part of any process you must be a member of that group. That way you will be given your due consideration and respect, just like people like you and others who are registered members. SWAN under my leadership will never look down on any of our members.

“We are peace lovers, so we want to live in peace with our members,” he concluded.

It could be recalled; in October, 2019 there were purported parallel SWAN national elections but SWAN president denied the existence of another SWAN body in Nigeria, saying that it is only duly registered members of SWAN can think of such.
